We were delighted to once again host this event
against the swim teams of our friends from Davenport and Reddish in
a repeat of the gala held here last summer. Again it was a
thoroughly enjoyable event that achieved the perfect balance of
healthy competition in a friendly atmosphere.
And what an atmosphere! The viewing benches were packed with
parents and family members from all the teams and that combined with
strong vocal support for each swimmer from all their team mates made
for a cacophony of noise.
Despite the disruption we have experienced so far this year to our
training sessions, the Dippers team was very strong and our swimmers
came out on top in 21 of the 40 races which resulted overall in a
clear win for us over Davenport with Reddish third. This overturned
the summer result when we were pushed into second by Davenport.

This type of gala is very much a team event. The swimmers swim for
points towards a team total rather than for individual honours. Also
there are no team trophies to take away at the end of the evening, a
sense of joining in, doing your best and enjoying it are the prizes
that hopefully each and every swimmer takes away with them.
Hopefully we will be able to make this a regular fixture in our gala
calendar. Thanks to all the volunteers from each of the teams for
organising and running the event.
Next gala is the club championships on March 25th (and this is for
trophies!)
